Millie is the nickname given to an unidentified woman whose nude, dismembered body was found along the south shore of the Spokane River in Spokane, Washington on the 20th of June, 1984. All that was discovered at the time was her torso, as her head, feet, and hands had been severed.
Millie had been sexually assaulted and also sodomized with a blunt object. Her cause of death is listed as beating/stabbing. It is generally thought that she had been killed within two days of being discovered, however, the water temperature was low at the time which increased the possibility that she had died weeks before being found. The type of blade used to dismember her body has not been determined.
A severed hand was discovered by a dog, which some sources have claimed belonged to Mille. However, it was later misplaced after being sent for testing. The fingerprints from the hand did not match anyone in the FBI’s system, and an archived version of her NamUs file has stated that the hand was excluded through mitochondrial testing.
Some investigators believe that Mille knew her killer well due to the efforts the killer went to in order to prevent her from being identified. As no missing person reports matched, it is also suspected that she was not local to Spokane. One article even suggested that she was of “Scandinavian origin”.
Millie’s skull was located in a vacant lot at 7th and Sherman avenues on the 19th of April, 1998. DNA testing was used to confirm it matched the torso that was located prior to the skull. The scene was then searched for any additional bones, but the only other bones that were found were two vertebrae which were connected to the skull. The vacant lot was the site of a Church that got demolished in 1989.
After the remains had been matched, a sketch was created and released to the media. The police said that they believed this was an isolated incident. But in 2006, the police re-introduced the idea of a serial killer being behind the slaying as the brutality of the killing suggested.
Millie is described as being a white female between the ages of 16 and 35 years old. She weighed 130lbs and stood between 5″3′ and 5″7′. She had blonde hair, a gap between her front teeth, two moles on her neck, an under-bite, a scar on her upper left arm, and a scar on her left knee (one report states that another was present on her right knee also). There was also evidence to suggest she had previously given birth.
Millie’s true identity still remains unknown, as does the identity of the person who took her life away.
